Local Favorite: El Mezcal in Homosassa
Some restaurants you try once. Others become places you return to again and again. El Mezcal in Homosassa falls firmly into the second category.
Citrus County Independence isn’t highlighting El Mezcal because we went looking for a restaurant to write about. It’s a place we’ve visited many times, including another trip just last night. After enough good meals and good experiences, we figured it was time to give one of our own local favorites a little recognition.
Good Food â and Plenty of It
On our latest visit, the choice was arroz con pollo, a personal favorite that regularly competes with El Mezcal’s burritos when it’s time to order.
One thing you’ll quickly discover at El Mezcal is that you aren’t leaving hungry. The portions are generous, the food consistently arrives looking and tasting great, and considering how much food you’re getting, the prices remain reasonable.
That’s an increasingly difficult combination to find.
A restaurant doesn’t become a favorite because of one good meal, though. Consistency matters. When you return to a place repeatedly and continue walking away satisfied, they’re doing something right.
El Mezcal does.
The People Make the Difference
Great food gets people through the door. Great people bring them back.
That’s one of the things that stands out most about El Mezcal.
The servers and bartenders are some of the friendliest people you could hope to encounter. Smiles don’t seem forced, and good service doesn’t feel like an obligation. There’s a genuinely welcoming atmosphere from the time you arrive.
Service is also impressively fast. From being seated and placing an order to having your food arrive, things move along without making you feel rushed.
That’s a balance good restaurants understand: take care of people quickly, but let them enjoy being there.
Lively Without Being Too Loud
El Mezcal isn’t a quiet restaurantâand that’s part of its charm.
There’s conversation, activity and the unmistakable sound of people enjoying themselves. But during our visits, it hasn’t crossed that line where you’re struggling to hear the person sitting across the table.
It’s lively rather than loud.
You can bring family or friends, enjoy dinner, have a real conversation and feel like you’re someplace with a little life in it.
A Citrus County Independence Local Favorite
We’re not restaurant critics, and this isn’t a paid advertisement.
We’re customers.
That’s what the CCI Local Favorite series is about: sharing places in our community that we’ve personally enjoyed and would comfortably recommend to our neighbors.
El Mezcal has earned that recommendation through good food, generous portions, reasonable prices, remarkably friendly people and consistently excellent service.
So if you’re around Homosassa and wondering where to grab a meal, El Mezcal is well worth a visit.
And if you happen to see somebody sitting there with a plate of arroz con pollo in front of him…
Well, there’s a decent chance Citrus County Independence is conducting some additional research.
